Hello ...

and welcome to the Women's International Club of Languedoc-Roussillon, which is quite a mouthful, so we are better known as WIC L-R.  Below you will find information on our history and guiding principles, but to whet your appetite here are five facts that give you a sense of who we are and what we do.

  • We are not political, a charity nor do we have any commercial interests.  We operate as a membership-based volunteer organisation, with members taking active roles in managing and organising activities for fellow members.

  • We currently have 10 nationalities within the Club from 4 different continents.  We strive to maintain a balanced representation of nationalities within the Club, ensuring a truly international atmosphere,  At present,  20% of our membership is French.  In order to be as inclusive as possible, we work in  2 languages French and English .

  • We run 12 groups and activities and in an average month, there will be over 18 activities/events going on.

  • Although we are a women's group a large number of activities and events  are open to partners and friends.

  • The annual membership fee is 30 Euros.  You can then join as many groups as you want and participate in all the events if you wish or create your own.  Go see what other benefits  you get when you join.

We hope you find our site interesting and it gets you curious enough to find out more, We would love to hear from you and hopefully welcome you into our club.

Our Story.....

It all started with Deliaan  Grimm, an ex-member of the WIC-Eindhoven in Holland, who moved to St. Chinian, in the

Languedoc-Roussillon region of South West France.  She decided to start a new WIC in the region and very quickly made contact

with a number of like minded women;  Kirsty Fawcett, Helen Wilson and Michelle Jacquemot who later became the 1st President of

the club.  To make it official they all went to see the sous-prefecture in Beziers and the Women's International Club was formed as an Association  in 1998.

The ladies adopted Languedoc-Roussillon as the unique identifier for WIC  and the grapes in their logo recognised that it was one of the major wine producing regions in France.  However, due to territorial reforms, on January 1, 2016 Languedoc-Roussillon merged with the Midi-Pyrénées region and became the new Occitanie department.   While Languedoc-Roussillon is no longer an administrative region, its rich history, culture, and geographical features continue to resonate in the collective memory of those who once called it home and, therefore, we still recognise that in our name.

WIC L-R is affiliated with similar clubs worldwide through its membership in the Open Door Association of International Women. Their primary purpose is to facilitate inter-club connections and communication.  This encourages direct interactions among members of affiliated associations who are relocating to or visiting cities where a “Sister Club” exists.  Currently, this inter-club network spans over sixty-five International Women’s Associations, across thirty-three countries, all united by their commitment to “open their doors to each other.”
